Further information

EuroFIR AISBL

A new food information provider

One of the key achievements of the EuroFIR project is the establishment of the EuroFIR AISBL new legal entity, which forms the basis of an international, non-profit Association based in Belgium (Association Internationale Sans But Lucratif; abbreviated AISBL).

Traditional foods

To help ensure the continued existence of traditional foods and preserve their place in each country’s culture, it is important that information about their constituents and preparation methods is documented.

Ethnic foods

The main aim of EuroFIR’s ethnic foods work package was to provide new and reliable data on the composition of foods consumed by both ethnic and mainstream populations for inclusion in national food composition databases.

Bioactive compounds

Bioactive plant food compounds (“plant bioactives” or “bioactive compounds”) can be defined as inherent non-nutrient constituents of food plants and edible mushrooms with anticipated health promoting/beneficial and/or toxic effects when ingested.

To ensure this information is easily accessible, relevant and usable across Europe, EuroFIR has built on previous EU work to compile a web-based integrated database (EuroFIR-BASIS) on critically assessed compositional and biological activity data for bioactive compounds in major European plant based foods.
