| A strategic objective of the EuroFIR project is to exploit new scientific and technological knowledge to strengthen the competitiveness of the European food industry. The EuroFIR dataset will be of use both to large companies and SMEs for R&D activities and for food labelling purposes. It will also help to ensure that nutrient composition data is accurate and consistent across Europe. This will assist in the development of the European food and nutrition industry, supporting its growth as a knowledge-based industry, committed to healthier food production.
The EuroFIR project is also addressing the paucity of data for many of the dishes consumed throughout Europe. These include both traditional dishes as well as foods introduced from all over the world, sometimes referred to as ‘ethnic’ foods. When available, this data will enable the food industry to provide accurate information on the wide range of foods eaten in Europe. | |  | |
