EuroFIR has held yet another successful International Congress, this time in the beautiful city of Vienna in Austria. More than 40 presentations on various aspects of food composition data were given by international experts in this field, covering different topics including:

§        The relevance of  food composition data for public health

§        Nutrition education tools and software using food composition data

§        Updates on new food composition data and databases

§        New or novel methods of analyses for nutrients and bioactive compounds

§        New data on traditional and ethnic foods in Europe

§        Delivering food composition data via emerging interfaces for dietary assessment and health applications.

Further, more than 80 posters on the topics of the congress were presented. The congress was concluded by giving an update on the new EuroFIR AISBL, which is the member-based international non-profit association of food composition data compilers, experts and stakeholders and which is the continuation of the EC-funded EuroFIR project.

In addition to the interesting programme during the congress days, the participants also had the opportunity to enjoy a more social part of this event, which included a gala dinner at a traditional Viennese ‘Heuriger’ and a reception at the Vienna City Hall, to which the mayor of Vienna invited all congress delegates.
